Melissa White

Melissa White is a Mi’kmaw Visual Artist whose work tells stories through animal teachings, grounded in her connection to land, culture, and community. Through painting and digital design, she creates pieces inspired by animal teachings, legends, and Mi’kmaw ways of knowing.

Her artwork includes acrylic paintings, digital designs, and printed pieces such as t-shirts, stickers, postcards, and greeting cards. Each piece is an expression of her relationship with the land and her desire to share cultural knowledge in a visual and accessible way.

Melissa also brings her artistic practice into community spaces. She has contributed artwork for interpretive panels in partnership with Shubenacadie Wildlife Park, helping to share Mi’kmaw perspectives through public-facing educational work.

In addition to her visual art, Melissa incorporates traditional practices into her life, including harvesting medicines such as dandelion root for teas and sweetgrass for ceremonial use. She also creates ribbon skirts through her design work.

Her work is shared primarily through Facebook and directly within her community, where she connects with people interested in authentic Mi’kmaw art and storytelling.
