The Millbrook Cultural & Heritage Centre, situated in the heart of Millbrook, Nova Scotia, is a vibrant hub dedicated to sharing and preserving Mi’kmaw history, language, and cultural knowledge. As a community-owned enterprise, the Centre welcomes visitors to engage in meaningful cultural experiences that include guided tours, interactive exhibits, and reconciliation-focused educational sessions. It is also the home of the iconic Glooscap statue, which greets travelers from Highway 102 and invites them to learn the stories of the Mi’kmaw people.
Inside the Centre, guests will find immersive displays showcasing traditional Mi’kmaw practices, regalia, and interpretations of oral history. Workshops and programs led by knowledgeable Mi’kmaw guides explore themes such as Treaty education, storytelling, and language revitalization. The Centre also regularly hosts school groups, community events, and training sessions aimed at deepening intercultural understanding between First Nations and non-Indigenous visitors.
In addition to cultural education, the Centre supports Indigenous makers through an extensive gift shop that offers authentic Mi’kmaw-made art, craft, and gifts. Whether stopping in for a tour or exploring their curated retail selection, the Millbrook Cultural & Heritage Centre offers a meaningful opportunity to connect with Mi’kmaw culture.
“We open our doors to share the knowledge of our ancestors—through tours, workshops, and crafts—so visitors can truly experience Mi’kmaw ways of knowing and being.” – Heather Stevens, Senior Interpreter & Manager, Millbrook Cultural and Heritage Centre
