The Skye River Trail is a community-led cultural and ecological walking destination in We’koqma’q, Nova Scotia. Nestled at the foot of Skye Mountain and overlooking Bras d’Or Lake in Cape Breton, this 1.5 km loop offers visitors a blend of natural beauty and vibrant Mi’kmaw storytelling—emphasizing healing, resilience, and heritage.
Guided tours weave through interpretive stations featuring smudging, sweetgrass braiding, plant medicine teachings, and storytelling around sites such as the Tree of a Thousand Faces, a traditional longhouse, a healing forest, and memorials for veterans and Missing & Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls.
In collaboration with environmental and reconciliation initiatives, Skye River Trail includes ila’latl Healing Forest, a dedicated ceremonial gathering space committed to cultural preservation and collective healing.
“This trail is not just a path—it’s a living story. Each step connects you to our people, our land, and our journey of healing and reciprocity.” – Storm Gould
