Eskasoni Cultural Journeys

Offering guided cultural experiences and creating cultural products with interactive stations and walking trails rooted in Mi’kmaw tradition.

Eskasoni Cultural Journeys is a community-led tourism enterprise owned and operated by Eskasoni First Nation, situated along the scenic Goat Island Trail in Eskasoni, Nova Scotia. Hosted by trained Mi’kmaw interpreters, the 2.3 – 2.4 km Goat Island Trail offers immersive guided tours dedicated to sharing Mi’kmaw cultural knowledge through storytelling, prayers, and ceremony. The site features interpretive installations, performance spaces, signage, and gift-shop facilities showcasing local Mi’kmaw artisans.

Visitors can choose from guided tours, medicine walks, kayak excursions, or self-guided options—which invite personal exploration of Mi’kmaw traditions in nature’s embrace. The trail offers interactive outdoor and village-style stations that illustrate traditional practices in a respectful, educational setting. Each station invites participants to connect directly with ancestral teachings rooted in Mi’kmaw language and heritage.

Targeting cultural tourists seeking authenticity, Eskasoni Cultural Journeys serves as a living classroom and cultural hub – being recognized as one of the top experiential Indigenous tourism offerings in the Atlantic. They offer mentorship opportunities, support knowledge transmission across generations, and model community-driven cultural tourism. With over a decade of experience, they provide an accessible and meaningful way for visitors to connect with Mi’kmaw experiences in Cape Breton.

“…in all of the travels that Jane and I have done around the world, Eskasoni Cultural Journeys ranks in the top 5% of experiential cultural tourism worldwide…” Dr. Keith Brown, Cape Breton University
