Sierra McCarthy is a Mi’kmaw artist and the creative force behind Wild Dreamer Woodwork & Engraving. Based in Eskasoni, Nova Scotia, Sierra combines her love for traditional and contemporary practices in a wide range of handmade pieces, from intricate beadwork to wood-burned and laser-engraved artwork. Her journey began in 2015 with dreamcatchers and has since evolved into a multifaceted art practice that incorporates Mi’kmaw hieroglyphics and materials like sweetgrass, reflecting her deep connection to culture and community.
Sierra’s work includes beaded earrings, wristlets, lanyards, and beadwork accessories, many of which are infused with sacred symbols and teachings. Her wooden creations—such as cutting boards engraved with Mi’kmaw prayers and custom beading centers—celebrate both heritage and innovation. Her art is grounded in Mi’kmaw values and traditions, and she creates with intention, offering non-Indigenous supporters a respectful way to wear and honour Mi’kmaw-made work.
Through Wild Dreamer Woodwork & Engraving, Sierra continues to grow her practice and presence in Mi’kma’ki and beyond. Her work can be found in shops from Whycocomagh to St. Mary’s, New Brunswick, and she welcomes custom orders with care and purpose.
“I make beaded earrings that should be worn by non-natives who want to support Mi’kmaw people. Everything I create reflects my journey and my pride in who I am.” – Sierra
