More About Julien:
Lorne Alexander Julian is a contemporary Mi’kmaw artist from Millbrook First Nation (We’kopektitk) whose vibrant acrylic paintings are deeply rooted in Mi’kmaw culture, spirituality, and lived experience. Known for his striking use of symbolism and bold colour, Lorne’s work reflects his personal journey of healing and his commitment to sharing Mi’kmaw teachings through visual storytelling.
Lorne’s art practice integrates Mi’kmaw language, cultural motifs, and spiritual themes, creating pieces that connect past and present. His acrylic paintings often feature eagles, drums, and the four sacred directions—symbols that speak to the resilience, teachings, and strength of the Mi’kmaq. In addition to canvas paintings, Lorne also creates murals, logos, and commissioned pieces, bringing Mi’kmaw identity and perspective into both public and private spaces.
Beyond the canvas, Lorne shares his artwork through powwows, craft shows, and business events across the region. His creations are also featured in select gift shops and through his online platforms. Whether painting live at events or teaching others about Mi’kmaw symbolism, Lorne offers an invitation to engage with the culture in a meaningful, visual way.
“My artwork is inspired by my healing journey and my desire to help others connect to Mi’kmaw culture. Through the colours and symbols I use, I share teachings of hope, strength, and balance.” – Lorne
