Crafting traditional Mi’kmaw art, leading cultural workshops, and sharing environmental and ceremonial knowledge.

Rob McEwan carries forward the teachings of his grandparents, creating work that embodies his connection to Mi’kmaw traditions and the natural world. Self-taught and deeply rooted in cultural knowledge, he is passionate about educating others. From teaching quillwork to large groups in the 1980s to his current focus on river restoration and ecological guardianship, Rob’s creations—whether waltes boards or ash baskets—are genuine and inspired by his ancestors.

Rob is a skilled Mi’kmaw artisan, educator, and cultural guide whose work reflects a deep connection to the teachings of his grandparents and the traditions of the Mi’kmaq people. Renowned for his handcrafted drums, carvings, waltes boards, and quillwork, Robbie’s creations embody the authenticity and beauty of raw materials sourced from the land.

He also applies his traditional ecological knowledge to land and water restoration projects, ensuring that Mi’kmaw environmental wisdom continues to guide sustainable practices. With a passion for storytelling and ceremony, Rob incorporates drumming, singing, and other cultural expressions into his teachings, enriching community connections and fostering understanding of Mi’kmaw heritage.
