Kelly Francis-Rose is a self-taught Mi’kmaw artisan, cultural designer, and the creative force behind Kespu’twitk Trading Post. Through beadwork, leather art, and regalia making, Kelly has reclaimed a family legacy once hidden, using her craft to honour her grandfather and connect to her Mi’kmaw roots. Her work is a celebration of identity, resilience, and the beauty of L’nuwey—Mi’kmaw ways of being.
Kelly specializes in beaded earrings, medallions, dreamcatchers, moccasins, antler and feather art, and traditional regalia. Each creation is made with care and spiritual intention, reflecting a deep respect for her ancestors, Mother Earth, and Mi’kmaw cultural teachings. Her skills extend to storytelling, having shared cultural knowledge at public events, and she continues to learn and grow in her language journey and land-based practices like hunting, fishing, and harvesting.
Through her work, Kelly brings joy and connection to others, offering not just cultural items, but a sense of belonging. She believes art can be a bridge between past and present, spirit and community.
“I do what I do to honour my grandfather and ancestors. I’m proud to no longer hide who we are—I feel closest to my Mi’kmaw culture when I bead, create, and share that spirit with others.” – Kelly
