Cynthia Browne

Cynthia Browne is a Mi’kmaw artisan and maker whose work is grounded in teachings passed down from Elders and shaped by her own creativity and lived experience. Based in White Rock, Nova Scotia, Cynthia creates functional and meaningful pieces that reflect Mi’kmaw culture, story, and care.

She was taught how to make moccasins by an Elder and has carried those teachings forward, adding her own style through colour, beadwork, and design. Each pair of moccasins is handmade with intention, honouring both tradition and personal expression.

Cynthia is also known for her ribbon garments, including ribbon skirts, shirts, and baby onesies. Her ribbon onesies, created for infants, have become especially meaningful to families looking to welcome children into the world wrapped in culture. She also creates medicine pouches and knot necklaces, using natural wood knots and sharing the stories and significance behind each piece.

Her work is inspired by time spent attending powwows, multicultural gatherings, workshops, and community events, where she continues to learn, share, and stay connected to Mi’kmaw traditions. Cynthia sells her work at powwows, craft shows, truck houses, and online through Marketplace.

Through every piece she creates, Cynthia carries forward teachings about care, story, and connection, ensuring Mi’kmaw culture is visible, wearable, and lived.
