Cheryl Gehue is a creative force blending cultural tradition with contemporary design. A proud Mi’kmaw from Sipekne’katik, Nova Scotia, Cheryl specializes in Indigenous clothing for pets—through her business, Boujee Indigenous Pet Fashions. Her business offers ribbon skirts, coats, bandanas, and more. This unique offering reflects the way pets have become a part of cultural gatherings and family identity.
Cheryl is also a skilled storyteller and educator, delivering cultural workshops on topics including faceless dolls, tipi teachings, medicine bags, and residential school teachings through the mawgit doll. Her artistic skills include birchbark and quillwork, and she’s active as a Kojua dancer, drummer, and singer. She’s also a writer, Treaty knowledge sharer, and advocate for sustainability through her involvement in conservation projects.
In addition to her creative pursuits, Cheryl operates an excavation company, providing groundwork for ceremonial spaces like sweatlodges. She sees herself as both a mentor and a mentee, learning and teaching across generations.
“Our pets are part of our family that we take to cultural gatherings. Through what I create and share, I help connect people and traditions in new ways.” – Cheryl Gehue
