Andrea Paul is a proud Mi’kmaw artisan from Pictou Landing First Nation, and is the creative force behind Wasawek Beading. Her passion for beadwork began in 2018 when she picked up a needle and thread to bead her first Christmas ornament. What started as a pastime quickly grew into a passion – with every design, her pride and confidence grew, sparking a lifelong dedication to the art of beading. Andrea is also recognized as a Nova Scotia Loyal maker, and her work reflects both creativity and a deep commitment to her community.
Through Wasawek Beading, Andrea creates custom beaded pieces that are cherished for their detail and authenticity. She also designs vibrant tribal rhinestone shirts that blend cultural pride with modern style. Over time she has grown her practice into a thriving business that showcases her artistry while supporting other beaders in keeping cultural tradition alive. Her vision for Wasawek Beading reflects her personal philosophy: “Beading is healing.” From her signature “boujee style” of soft pink and silver tones decorating her shop to the affordability of her supplies, Andrea has built a space where creativity, culture, and healing come together.
You can find Andrea’s work at her shop in Pictou Landing or at powwows and Indigenous markets across Mi’kma’ki. Her vision is rooted in affordability, accessibility, and passion, ensuring that others can continue the tradition of beadwork as a powerful way to express Mi’kmaw identity and spirit. With every piece and every bead, Andrea celebrates Mi’kmaw artistry, cultural expression, and the power of craft as a pathway to wellness.
“My vision is to show my love for beads and beading in everything I do – from my boujee pink and silver shop, to the pieces I create, to keeping supplies affordable so our people can continue beading as a way of healing.” – Andrea Paul
