Wagmatcook

Wagmatcook First Nation is one of the five Mi’kmaw First Nations located in Cape Breton (Unama’ki). It is perhaps the oldest permanent settlement of the Mi’kmaw Nation in Nova Scotia. Wagmatcook, which means “clean wave,” is located both along Middle River and the Bras d’Or lakes. Wagmatcook prides itself on the use and protection of the Mi’kmaw language, considering it an important part of everyday life.

In Wagmatcook, Makers and Hosts carry forward generations of knowledge and traditions —come and be part of the journey.
