Tracy Googoo-Stevens

Crafting traditional medicines and handmade Mi’kmaw goods, and sharing land-based teachings through her store and workshops.

Tracy (Theresa) Googoo-Stevens is a Mi’kmaw artisan, hunter, and knowledge keeper from We’koqma’q First Nation. As the founder of Tracy’s Mikmaq Creations, she combines generations of lived experience with a deep respect for Mi’kmaw traditions. Fluent in the Mi’kmaw language and raised in a family rooted in Traditional Knowledge, Theresa brings a strong connection to the land into everything she creates and shares. Her work reflects a lifetime of learning from her father—skills such as hunting, fishing, foraging, and crafting have shaped her identity and now form the foundation of her business.

Tracy is known for her handmade bear grease salve, created from scratch and offered for a wide range of traditional uses—from soothing skin conditions and joint pain to supporting hair health and reducing age spots. She also harvests and prepares other traditional medicines, including teas and preserved foods, and continues to learn and share these practices. her store is a hub for Mi’kmaw crafts and supplies, offering beads, basket strips, sinew, and other materials for traditional creation. In addition to her work as a maker, she is in the early stages of hosting public workshops, sharing her expertise in land-based teachings and craftwork with others.

Rooted in Mi’kmaw Knowledge, Tracy lives in accordance with the values passed down to her: take only what is needed, respect the land, and give back through teaching and care. Her business is both a place of commerce and a cultural resource—where community members and visitors can connect with authentic Mi’kmaw Knowledge and goods.

“I learned from my dad how to live off the land—to respect nature and only take what is needed. I take pride in my hunting and my handmade medicines, and I’m proud to share those teachings with others.” – Tracy
